Christ: The Oasis of Peace

This week really was something miraculous:)
We had a Christmas devotional last Saturday and we had a great turnout including a college kid from Bethlehem that we met playing ping-pong and a former investigator invited by a member who is now actively coming to church and investigating again! It was really neat to see one of our members reach out to a friend who was going through a difficult time and invite them to come closer to Christ. That friend is starting to see the hope, joy and healing that Christ and his sacrifice brings.
Also we met with a really legit kid who is very smart and already was wondering a lot that we lived before this life with God for a long time learning from him, we his children with the potential to grow up and be like him and then that there is eternal progression after death. It was incredible to confirm to him the truths that God has been whispering to him. He really lit up, the spirit was really strong and he believes that we are brothers sent from our Father to reveal more of the truth to him. He loves the Book of Mormon and the rich restored truths that it brings to connect the dots of his beliefs.
Also our friend Kacper got Baptized, he was going through a really hard time and experiencing a lot of stress but he said that last Friday night as he went to the Heavenly Father in sincere prayer, he received the greatest sense of overwhelming perfect peace he has ever experienced. He decided to be baptized the following week! He says he feels that everyday now, especially today as he came out of the waters of Baptism and knows that the Savior truly washed away all the sins and mistakes and lost years of his former life. In his testimony today he testified and encouraged all the investigators present to truly follow Jesus Christ by repenting and be baptized by someone holding the proper authority of God. It was so powerful and sincere. He is truly living now in an oasis of peace(as he describes it).
I promise as well that if we all decide to remember Christ always and make and keep those holy eternal covenants with God we all can live in an Oasis of Peace, no matter what the current conditions are of the dynamic world we live in. I know that Jesus Christ is the Savior of all mankind and that he truly lived and lives! The redemptive and enabling power which comes from his Atonement is very real and available to all and a desire to invite that power more fully into our lives is the greatest gift that we could give him this Christmas. I love him and I love all you. Merry Christmas.

God is Good

Everything has been going really well here in Lublin. It's just a big College town so it is really fun to meet and talk to the college students about the restoration of the fullness of Christ's gospel and our true revealed identity, plan, and purpose.
Tomasz got baptized last week and it was amazing. He is basically a college kid in a 50 year old's body. He has just filled with confidence, hope and joy as he has been able to repent and leave the anger and regret of the past behind. He has been finding great joy in sharing the gospel with others as well.
Besides that, the members here are really great, each week they organize something for the members and investigators and other friends to mingle and hang out. The branch has really caught fire and everybody is so hopeful and happy. I sometimes just sit back and ponder how good God has been to us here. He is a God of perfect love and miracles, let us all remember to be grateful for all of his blessings and all that we have. We will then be filled with light and love and be able to share that with all. God lives, Jesus Christ is the Savior of the World and the Holy Spirit whispers that to us continually. If we just stop, and truly listen with real intent, we will hear Him every time.
I know that is true.
Love, Elder Wood

The Hope of Christ

Our week was really interesting. We had a lot of good things happen. We have 4 friends who are really increasing their knowledge and faith of the restored truths of Christ's gospel. One of them will be getting baptized this Saturday. His name is Tomasz and has a really amazing story which he said I could share.
20 years ago he went through a pretty rough divorce where he found out that his wife was cheating on him. In the result of the divorce he felt alone and completely abandoned. He recalled to us today an experience he had shortly after his divorce. He had some friends who had committed suicide previously so he decided that would be the path for him. As he was walking on the train tracks toward the end of his pitiful life with a train approaching just 200-300 meters away he said he heard a silent but penetrating voice which told him " Step off the tracks, return home, you will find your family, you will find the right path for your life."
He followed the prompting and for 20 years searched for his "family" and the true Path for his life that this voice told him. He testified today to us with tears in his eyes that thanks to Jesus Christ and his restored gospel he found his family and the Path that God wants for him in his life. He also told us that he knew it was the Holy Ghost which spoke to him that day, because of his favorite scripture is 1 nephi 4:6,7.
"And was led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which should do. Nevertheless went forth..."
It said it was the same for him in his life.
The feelings of the spirit, tenderness and eternal significance of the moment are not describable.
I feel inspired to share this story with you all and invite you to also listen to this voice. God loves us immensley and has a great plan, life, blessings, and family in store for each one of us. Do not decide to end your journey early and if you have a friend who might be thinking so please encourage them to also listen to the Still small voice encouraging each one of us personally to continue that search for Happiness and belonging. I truly love you all and the light, hope and joy that our Savior brings into the World.
please watch and share the attached video and bring light to all within your reach this season.
Love,
Elder Wood

Lublin!

I finally got the transfer call of my dreams! I am now serving in the best college town in Poland and also the region in which my ancestors come from. There have been many miracles so far as I am coming into contact with some relatives and been teaching some really great investigators.
My companion is in his second transfer and is from Germany. He is awesome. I am impressed by his maturity, and his spiritual sensitivity. He is a very powerful missionary and very real. He thinks I am too crazy though ;) We make a good pair.
Tom is awesome, he is like a 20 year old missionary full of fire to help all people and stand up for Christ trapped inside a 40 year old body. He wants to be baptized. Along with our friend Kacper, he is in the hospital right now but we went and visited him and his friend was really interested and so they are reading the Book of Mormon together there now. His friend is kinda atheist but really wants to find out if God is real, and if he can come clean from his past so it was a really sincere powerful experience.
Our friend MichaƂ met the missionaries 2 weeks ago as an atheist, last week he said he was now agnostic, 2 days ago he was asking all kinds of questions on how he can better feel the spirit and here God's voice. We aske him if he was coming to church and he said "of course, for sure I'll be there." He soaked it all in and it was great to see how happy he was!
The members here are really involved and have good desires to build the kingdom.
The sisters in the district are also teaching a lot of great young college students. It is cool to see that true joy and light that comes into their life as the learn these very simple truths of who we really are as sons and daughters of a Loving God, where we come from, where we are going and the wonderful gifts and blessings that come into our lives thanks to his Prefect Plan. Please let us all remember our true identity and true to uncover more of it each and every day.
I love you all

Return to the Land of My Forefathers

Very quick. No, I did not get transfered. I simply was on exchange for a few days and spent some time in the town where my polish family comes from. Long story short the first person I spoke with was a drunk homeless man that accused us of being russian spies. The second person I spoke with was a young searchinng mother with her young daughter playing in the park who turned out to be one of my distant cousins. It was an incredible miracle and we had a great discusssion. We felt a kinly bond immediately and it was the same feellings that we feel when we stop and thinkk that we are all truly brothers and sisters, children of our Heavenly Father. She invited me back when I am next in the area to meet with the family and discusss more about the plan. This plan is so true. God is real. Christ lives and his church in perfectness is restored once again upon the Earth.

New Terrain

Well, Have a lot to say but I will keep it short. My mission is a miracle.
Lots of our investigators are making progress, and I am humbled at the miracle of change the Atonement makes possible. It has been neat to help the Branch president out in the reactivation of a few of the young solid priesthood holders.
Something exciting, I am now in a state to take the gospel to my long lost relatives from my polish line. I will be visiting the city from where my polish ancestors emigrated from and while be opening of some new doors and connections to the church with important people there while also be searching out my relatives.
It has been neat to come to know the mind of the Lord as I humbly sincerely pray for guidance and strength, study the Book of mormon, deeply ponder and pleadingly, desperately pray, then get up and work according to the answers he gives. Heavenly Father talks to his children today each one personally as we come unto him in sincere humilty. Of that I bear solemn testimony :)  Please pray for me to have the spirit and to follow the voice and will of the Lord. Thank you and I love you all

Fun Finding Activities

Last transfer we did some fun finding activities, to get our good name out there and invite people to learn about our church. We did a couple runs and also commentated an english a 3 on 3 basketball tournament with a famous polish rapper.

Transfer Review

Elder Kriser and I will be staying together for another transfer here in the Capitol!! I don't know if I ever described him. He is from Florida, there he lived on a big farm with his herd of cows. He has six sisters(5 older, 1 younger). He also went to BYU-Idaho for one year and did some sales during the summer break. He is a very loving, calm missionary, very in-tune with God and his will. It has been a pleasure to serve with him and learn from him, and I am glad that I have 2 more months to do so.
We spent the last two summer months really gaining our contacts and finding lots of people who are interested in the restored gospel and started teaching them. Many of which express a good interest in our church and a desire to find the truth from God in their lives. These next two months should be filled with lots of teaching and baptisms. Also we have really gotten close to the YSA and some less-actives and part-member families in the Ward and it has been great to work beside them and be lifted up spiritually together as well.
At the beginning of the transfer I made a new friend. She lives on the Polish-German border and studied her in Warsaw. She had been investigating the church for a few years and she decided to take the next steps leading to her Savior and be baptized and confirmed. It was humbling to be a part of the process and to see the difference the gift of the Holy Ghost made in her life, after she made the big decision. Her testimony is strong and her spirit is bright. She is an amazing example.
Also, in the past four months there have been 3 different general authorities come to the mission. This weekend Elder Mendoza from the Area 70 came and shared his knowledge, advice and spirit. It was great because at Dinner, Elder Kriser and I sat next to him and were able to ask him some questions and the words which he spoke and the spirit which we felt were perfect. We are excited to implement his counsel into the work in helping to bring to pass God's glory," the immortality and eternal life of man."
So an interesting scripture he shared was Doctrine and Covenants 88:67 " And if your eye be single to my glory, your whole bodies shall be filled with light, and there shall be no darkness in you; and that body which is filled with light comprehendeth all things."
So let us all remember to always keep God's goal in our sight, because if we do and then lose ourselves in the service of those around us, we will always know what to do and will make it back to live with our Heavenly Father his son Jesus Christ again, helping our fellow brothers and sisters along the way. Life is amazing. Our divine destiny is true. Of that I give my word in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Yes, I'm alive ;)

Sorry I haven't updated you all for so long and I really don't know what to say, or how to release my thoughts and summarize all that has been going on the past few weeks.
We had to take the missionaries returning home to the airport at 3:30 in the morning last week. That was kinda hard not because we had to get up early but because I had to say goodbye to all the sisters that were in my MTC group as we all came out into this mision thing together. It finally dawned on me that I only have 6 months left and that gave me some weird feelings because it's going to be so hard and say goodbye to everyone and everything. But yeah, not really gonna think about that anymore because I have way too much to accomplish before I come home and see you all again!
We also went and did some service work a community severely damaged by a massive storm this week. We did manual labor in gathering and burning fallen destroyed trees, cleaning parks and farm work from 8 to 21 for a few days but it seriously felt like a vacation from normal missionary work! ha it was so nice. Then a miracle, just by seeing how nice and happy we were all these super strong Catholics wanted to find out more about our church and read the book of Mormon so we handed out a lot with "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" and they said that once they read it all they would pass it to their families and other members in their community! It was so neat. Then the next day we went and helped a member of our ward on her farm and it really softened the hard, skeptical hearts of her family and neighbors. By the end of it all she was tearing up. We literally felt like we were in paradise :) The results in the lives of others of heartfelt service is amazing. Let us always serve others with selflessness and the pure love of Christ and look for the miracles, healing and increased love that follows.
Also, We will have 11 new great missionaries coming into the Poland Warsaw Mission tomorrow which we are super excited about!
Elder Kriser and I are personally are working with a lot of investigators who truly are desiring to come closer to Christ, We have about 9-10 legit investigators making progress with more than half of them coming to church consistently. They want to be baptized and progress according to the gospel but some of them are just waiting till the time is right so we continue to teach true doctrine and watch their confidence and faith grow each week.
I guess that will be the spiritual message this week. I have been interested in psychology and human behavior for so long and so this quote has always been on my mind but then when Elder Sabin came and gave us some training he shared it as well. "True doctrine, understood, changes attitudes and behavior. The study of the doctrines of the gospel will improve behavior quicker than a study of behavior will improve behavior. … That is why we stress so forcefully the study of the doctrines of the gospel” Elder Boyd K Packer
It is truly amazing to see the change in peoples lives and the happiness, peace and joy they receive when they come to know that they are truly sons and daughters of God. They learn true doctrine from God himself through study prayer and revelation and cast of the philosophies of men,  then realize who they are, whey they are here, where they are headed and what potential they have, and the blessings and growth and development that awaits them as the follow the path walked of the Savior. We truly are joint heirs in Christ, he not only is our Savior, but our perfect older brother continuously, lovingly, encouraging us to follow him in our journey back to our Father in Heaven as more developed, mature, intelligent, purified beings. We are all here for a reason and we have so much to look forward to and work towards with the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. The Church of Jesus Christ is on the earth again in perfectness and has all truth. Jesus Christ in all reality stands at the head and leads his church still today. I Know that and Testify of that in his name,  Jesus Christ, amen.
I love and miss you all
Love, Elder Wood

The Gathering

There have been miracles every day here in my mission. It really has been a miracle in my own life to have made it to the spot I have and been able to witness the things I have been a part of. For those of you that served missions, you know a little of what I mean, for those of you who have not, prepare to go or meet with the missionaries and then you will see ;)
Anywas, it has been soo busy here in the capitol, we have had many exchanges with different Elders and it has been crazy transitioning from the smallest teaching area in the mission to the biggest. My companions are Elder Kriser from Florida and Elder Haskett from LA. It is really interesting and a blessing to work and learn between the two of them. We have a lot of people we are working with including a few less-actives and recent converts. There is a new faith and fire here in the Poland Warsaw mission and it has been really cool to see God quickening the pace in gathering his sheep. We as missionaries are just like young sheep dogs finding the scent of the lost sheep and signaling to the master that they are lost and want to find their way back, and then we walk side by side with the Master to go out and bring them into the fold of safety and happiness.
This church is true, I have no doubt. I have heard just about every angle of argument, criticism and skeptisms but that does not sway me in my knowledge that the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ lives and directs his church today personally as he always had through a living prophet and twelve apostles. This Plan and the purpose of why we live, and why we have families is so much more than we can comprehend, but Our loving father in Heaven promises to reveal it to us little b little, sep by step. So I invite you to take that next step to figure out who you are in this plan and learn more about Jesus Christ.I promise it will bless your live and you will feel his light and peace come into your life.
He Lives!
sincerely,
 Elder Wood

MASSive Update!

Things are going great!!
We had a miracle the other day and had sudden prompting to talk to one of our investigators at his work on the town square and we were prompted to leave immediately and give him a broshure about the plan of Happiness so we could talk to him about life after death in our next meeting that week. We had just returned from our sports Saturday and were finishing up some studies so we were still in our sports clothes, as we went to change we had the prompting that we must leave immedieatley and so we just wore our soccer clothes and slides ha, but we felt good about it.
But for some reason he wasn't there in his shop and so we felt kinda dumb so we wandered over to the other side of the side walk to get got some ice-cream to make up for it, and not feel so bad ;) But while doing so we made friends with the girl selling ice-cream. While we were buying our ice-cream it started raining so nobody else was buying anything and we had a good excuse to continue our conversation with her. She really opened up to us and told us her mom and gramma died recently and so we explained what life after death looks like and the plan and christ and she was super interested!!! We have another meeting with her today :) ha it was crazy,
One more, which was cool, we took a wierd route today on our bikes to go and set up some english and America presentations at some schools to get our name out and invite people to our english class and while doing so we passed one of our investigators on his bike, another one of our investigators about hit us with his car and riding our bikes out of the school parking lot we ran into another leaving school!
Honestly, I don't even know if I am the one steering my bike anymore, I am just peddling like a madman! haha just ask Elder Hansen, literally we flirt with curfew at 21:30 multiple nights a week and after we get out of our meetings we have a few kilometers to travel with like 5-7 mintues. Thats one of the moments I believe where grace  (divine means of strength and help) kicks in. It's insane! We always have strength for one last dead sprint at the end of the night. We really love the bikes we have here, only four bikes in our entire mission, makes a big difference. So grateful. ha, on our way to meetings or teaching appointments sometimes we will ride a circle, zigzags or stop for a minute and next thing you we know there is somebody that were are teaching or somebody that is willing to find out more!
Pretty much all the people in our free english courses are between 17-23 which is way cool. A few of them now have Book of Mormons and 2 of them are new solid investigators!
We also play soccer every saturday on this awesome turf field with our new youth friends from the sports middle school, david( one of the members who plays soccer) is going to start bringing his friends too.
Literally we walk around Mielec after giving presentations in about every school now and we are like celebrities, the youth usually call out to us or we say hi to them and then we just end up talking for like 15-30 minutes about who we are and what we believe, ooor go get food with them. ;)
We have been working hard and things have been improving.
Miracle!!! One of our friend's, who is studying about our church, her mom offered to take us on a bicycle ride through the woods last pday so we did that for a few hours with her husband, went to the ice-cream factory with them and ended up gathering mushrooms with them as well, I think we can now safely say now that she accepts us! ;)
The less active family were able come to church last week as well and they are coming to FHE tonight! they are so amazing are like 30 and have a 4 year old son, they got married in the temple in england bout 5 years ago....
Continuing to work with David, it is cool to see his knowledge and confidence in the gospel grow. btw, he is a stud, has the most swag in the world.
But yeah, things are good,
I was thinking what we could do to teach better and help people understand the gospel and all I could think of was the members and all of their talents especially their daughter Ev, because she is currently away from us in California. Her testimony, support, wisdom and common sense(not to mention her language skills) really help us in inviting others to learn more about Christ and come more fully unto him. ;) but yeah, you members everywhere have so much power and believe it or not, missionary work is really up to you, YOU ARE NEEDED. Don't fear, only believe.
anyways, one more thing. We tried something cool as a companionship a few days ago, we tried substituted our names and situation into the first verses in the Book or Mormon that we all have read about 1000000 times and it was sooo cool! It worked and made sense and we got so much more insights that we never have before. Definitely one of the ways our Loving Heavenly Father can talk to us. We encourage you to try it. When you read the scriptures substitute your name, and setting into the story, and you will find it easier to receive confirmations to your your prayers, answers of why things in the past might have happened and personal tips for the present and future.
I know the Book of Mormon is the words of Jesus Christ and contains the fullness of his gospel because it brings all of us closer to him to live in harmony, peace and happiness with his teachings in all aspects of our lives. And as we do, we come to know Him and his Father, his perfect grace and his infinite Atonement. I know and promise that is true. I've felt it. He is real. He lives.
Love, Elder Wood

Elder Anderson Visits Poland!

Bryton didn't write an email to share with everyone today, but I wanted to share a couple of pictures and a post that were on the "Poland Missionary Moms (and Dads)" Facebook page. I spotted Bryton in the pictures right away, can you? :)  He looks so happy!

Elder Anderson visits the Poland Warsaw Mission! "Today is going to be a historical day for Poland!" "It is one of the hardest missions in the whole world - the twelve only send the strongest and the best missionaries to Poland...I know because I assigned you!" Apolostic blessing was given! Elder Anderson asked that the missionaries stay for the members meeting - "Cancel your train rides home I want you to stay for the members meeting!" - the office elders and missionaries had to scramble to figure out how to house 60 missionaries - they ended up staying in the apartments of elders, sisters and senior couples as well as the mission home! "Regardless of where you are it is never going to be easy - it is always hard. We aren't here to talk about what is hard but to talk about what we do and what we are going to do now!"

I will also share a bit of what Bryton wrote in his short email to me today:

"Mom, The existence and activity of our dead in our lives is something that is so real as the oxygen you just breathed! I will need the helped of mine and their relatives for them to be prepared and ready to receive this gospel, so will you all please do all that you can to get to the temple to perform the ordinances that I will send back to you. I have my companion in on the project and I believe that great purpose for which I have been prepared from the foundation of the World is about to start. I need your help and I need the help of them on the other side.
Sorry for being so deep into the work and focused only on the mission and this great work. There will be eternity and many other opportunities for us to talk and catch up. like for example next week ;)"

The Spirit of Truth

I had another cool experience with one of our investigators we were teaching this week. He was a little skeptical of the living prophets who communiate with God idea and had asked if I had ever been in the presence of the prophet and i had kinda forgotten about the cultural celebration of the boise temple when President Monson and Elder Bednar came. But as my memory was sparked it was if the spirit had completely ignited within me and I felt the spirit sooooo strong  just as I had from that moment in the past when I was in his presence and it stayed with me strongly for most of the night! He was speechless and felt a change in atmosphere and said he really wanted to feel what I had just felt. It was really neat to be able to be a vessel of the spirit and have that experience from my youth to back me up and share the beautiful news of the Restoration of God's church in full. It is seriously such a giant blessing that the meridian temple will be dedicated soon! The spirit will be so strong there.
Make sure you guys are getting in contact with that spirit and try to remember those moments even write them down, because then when you're doubting later or are in a hostile venue, or are losing your focus, you will remember those moments that you FELT for yourself the truth of this Gospel. Those feelings are from the Light of the World. They were and are real. Christ is truly the prince of peace and will always engulf us with his spirit if we take his name upon us, always remember him, and keep the commandments. He lives and I so testify in the name of Jesus Christ amen.

The Family

This week we had the opportunity to meet with multiple families and teach them how the restored truths of the gospel bless, strengthen, and bind families together in love and unity. Last night was really great because we met with a couple and discussed the Restoration while their 17-year-old daughter was on a trip out of country. They expressed concern for her safety and development as well as their desire to find God and his real truth. And it was amazing to see how simply testifying to them that God has blessed us with living prophets and apostles of God today on the Earth and that they together can come to find out the truthfulness of this Restoration of all things by reading the history and interaction with God of 1 family and their posterity from The Book of Mormon. They said they would start reading together that night. :)
I can't really explain how much I have truly learned about the family we came from, why we are here with a family on Earth and what we are supposed to do and the family we all have a chance to live with after this life. God truly is perfect and created a perfect plan for his children, He spoke to all of us and revealed a giant part of that plan and it's purpose in A proclamation given by his Prophet on Earth at the time, Gordon B. Hinckley in 1995. It is called The Family: A Proclamation to the World. I encourage you all to read it tonight in your free time with the whole family or family Home evenings and discuss the importance and divinity of it. I testify that those words and that Statement of Truth is directly from the mouth of our Loving Heavenly Father. Ask him about it and he will confirm it to you personally. You will feel it from feelings of  "love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,  meekness, temperance" (Galatians 5:22,23) for by this spirit and "by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."(moroni 10:5)  I promise that is true :)
